The Best Free Courts in Town
Six public courts and pitches that cost nothing to play on — plus the quiet hours worth knowing.
Not every good court costs money. These six public spots are maintained by the council and open dawn to dusk, every day.
1. Dockside Courts — the best outdoor hoops, but busy after 17:00. Go weekday mornings.
2. Old Town Caged Court — a full-size cage behind the station; quiet on Sunday mornings.
3. Riverside Meadow Pitches — grass pitches that are free outside league hours; check the floodlight rota.
4. Northgate Multi-Court — tarmac court with tennis and basketball lines, lit until 21:00.
5. Harborview Boardwalk Loop — a free 1.2km running loop with timing markers.
6. Westmeadow Recreation Ground — two free grass football pitches plus a junior tennis court.
